What is a podcast, and why is it trendy?

What is a podcast?

Let us start by breaking down where the word podcast comes from. Well, it comes from the following two words:

  1. iPods
  2. Broadcasting

So, podcasts are a series of audio episodes that you can listen to at any time once the episode has been uploaded.

Podcasting platforms are not social media platforms. However, podcasting platforms like Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Pandora, and Google Podcasts are all platforms that allow content creators to share their message with the world via audio and not video or written content

If you have a smartphone, an iPad, a laptop, or basically any smart device that can be connected to the internet, then you can listen to a podcast anywhere and anytime.

Why are podcasts trendy these days?

Gary Vee predictions that audio content is going to be the next big thing from the past couple of years have been proven to be correct, but why are podcasts very trendy these days.

With virtual assistance devices like Amazon Alexa becoming very popular these days, it is evident that audio content is going to be the next big content format to rule the internet.

Do you not believe this? Here is what the founder of Google Podcasts had to say in 2019:

“You’ll be able to search for and play podcasts directly in Google Search across Android, iOS, and desktop browsers, a step toward making audio a first-class citizen across Google.” – Search Engine Land

With audio content being treated as a first-class citizen on Google’s search results page, content creators and business owners are noticing this golden opportunity and benefiting off of it.
